The Rabbit in our Rabbit & Veggies comes from a local farmer. Rabbit Farming, or Cuniculture, was a growing and profitable business here in North Carolina until Chinese imports undercut the local farmers. It was by accident in 2019 that I ran into Neil McDowell, one of the largest suppliers of rabbit meat in North Carolina prior to 2014. US raised Rabbit meat is more expensive but the quality and humane treatment is worth it.
We use the whole rabbit with bone and organ meat.
All vegetables are from the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market.
I am very excited to introduce Rabbit into my blends of raw dog food. Rabbit is a ‘cool’ food according to Chinese Medicine, recommended for dogs with a tendency to be warm, moist, or yeasty.
I will be feeding my little yeasty girl, Karma, Rabbit throughout the end of summer and adding it to the rotation of my other dogs’ meals.
